Belfast Live set out to raise £25k for The Welcome Organisation with their opening eyes on homelessness campaign to help purchase a mobile health unit to bring much needed assistance to the the homeless community in Belfast.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is now kitted out and ready to hit the road after a slight delay due to COVID-19, with the help from many local businesses.
The Sprinter has been kitted out to the highest spec by Total Van Solutions Mallusk, and with a number of unique features makes in the first of it's kind in Northern Ireland. The space is divided into two areas, a waiting area and treatment area which can be closed off to maintain privacy when treatment is being carried out. It is also equipped with a hot and cold water system, a fridge to hold pharmaceuticals, and a CCTV system in the waiting area and outside the van.
The mobile health unit will bring treatment to people who otherwise wouldn’t get it. Welcome are working alongside homeless healthcare professionals who will use the vehicle to provide are range of services such as drop-in clinics at hostels, vaccine boosters, sexual health checks, hepatitis checks, ‘on the ground’ healthcare and more.
